Election Results
The pollsters and psychics are out. I came across two seat count predictions today. They are pretty similar except for the Conservative/Liberal numbers. Let’s hope that the National Post is right.
From The Hill Times :
Conservative: 115-120
Liberal: 115-120
Bloc Quebecois: 60-65
New Democrat: 25
From The National Post (Subscription):
Conservative: 129-133
Liberal: 87-91
Bloc Quebecois: 56-60
New Democrat: 27-31
Empty promises
The Liberals have come out recently with a few announcements that are as substantial as twinkies. They are just filled with fluff.
- The Liberals announced an all out ban on handguns … except for “Legitimate target shooters who meet requirements would be eligible for an exemption to the handgun ban.” So to paraphrase “all handguns will be illegal, except for the legal ones.”
- The Liberal announced “new” childcare money last week. As the headline says “Liberal Child Care Commitment will be Made Permanent.” In other words “we will continue to fund the system after we set it up” … I would think that could be assumed. I was obviously wrong.
Lesson: Read very carefully or you will be fooled.
The Liberal secret agenda has been revealed
Scott Reid’s comments this week gave a clear glimpse into the thinking behind Liberal policy (in case you don’t know what I’m talking about visit the conservative website). In a sentence it is:
“Canadians can’t be trusted”
The Proud to be Canadian website makes the point very well.
A few examples:
- Majority of Canadians support traditional definition of marriage, but the Liberal government pushes ahead with legalizing same-sex marriage. The majority in this country can not be trusted to make decisions.
- Liberal Childcare plan (I prefer calling their plan daycare) is only good if run by competant professional. Parents can not be trusted to raise their children.
- They are the only party that can save us from Quebec seperating, even though they are largely responsible for the problem. No one else can trusted with speaking for Canada.
- Liberals are the only ones who can clean up the corruption in Ottawa. Only Liberals can be trusted to root out untrustworthy Liberals.
- Senators must be appointed by the PMO. Voters can’t be trusted with creating balance in Ottawa.
- Government must run all healthcare. Sick Canadians can’t be trusted to choose how or when to get treatment.
- And the list goes on …
More gun control?
Haven’t they learned their lesson? Even the CBC can recognize the bad logic in banning handguns:

Sheila Copps on the GST announcement
This one is a very interesting read. It’s a nice peek into the history of the Liberal GST stand. If I’m not mistaken it sounds like she is rooting for the Tories … should I be suprised?

The devil you know …
The impending election has got me thinking. Whenever federal politics comes up I repeatedly hear, “better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.” Do Canadians really believe that? Would you conduct your business based on that nugget? How about personal relationships? I know I wouldn’t.
When you vote, I hope you’ll consider basing it on this one instead:
“Fool me once
Shame on you
Fool me twice
Shame on me.”
